1. This is a fairly small canal. Some are a little smaller. You can see both exposed walkway and tunnel type on the right. I'm standing on a very small wooden bridge.
2. The Rialto Bridge, the first stone bridge and the largest bridge in Venice. You can see one set of stairs and the center arches for the shops. The bottom of the bridge gives you some idea of the width. The boats in front are unloading goods and luggage to a couple of the hotels and restaurants next to the bridge.
3. This is the Grand Canal from the center of the Rialto Bridge. The large boat is a city bus. There are some gondolas tied up on the right. The wooden boat at the bottom at the extreme right is a water taxi. They're very expensive.
4. Saint Mark's Cathedral. The stack of what appear to be platforms in the foreground are actually walkways to use when they have a higher than average tide or heavy rain. The make walkways to cross the plaza. They'll also sell you rubber boots that reach to your knees with a rope at the top to tie them closed.
